Three Uzbek Women Caught Smuggling 3.7 KG Gold at Tribhuvan Airport

Three Uzbek nationals were arrested at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Wednesday night with 3.745 kilograms of gold. The women had arrived in Nepal via a Fly Dubai flight and were caught smuggling gold, according to airport security officials.

Lal Babu Subedi, spokesperson for the Tribhuvan Airport Security Office, told The Ritible that a group of four individuals had traveled together, including three women and one man. While no gold was found in the possession of the male passenger, authorities suspect that all four were part of the same smuggling operation.

The three women had concealed the gold in pellet form inside their bodies, specifically in their rectums, Subedi confirmed. “Their behavior appeared suspicious, prompting airport security personnel to conduct an X-ray screening. When irregularities were detected, they were taken to KMC for a video X-ray, which confirmed the presence of gold,” he explained.

Further investigation into the case is ongoing, officials said.
