Tiger Woods has had surgery after tearing his Achilles tendon while training at home. The 15-time major champion has not shared when he expects to return, making his participation in the Masters, starting on April 10, uncertain.
The 49-year-old had been aiming to compete at Augusta, marking his comeback since his last PGA Tour event in July.
“As I increased my training at home, I suddenly felt sharp pain in my left Achilles. Doctors later confirmed it was a full tear,” Woods explained.
Dr. Charlton Stucken from the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida, performed a minimally invasive procedure to repair the tendon. He stated that the surgery “went smoothly” and expects Woods to fully recover.
Woods has not played in a PGA Tour event since the Open at Royal Troon last July. In September, he underwent his sixth back surgery in ten years. He had planned to return at the Genesis Invitational in February but withdrew after his mother, Kultida, passed away.
Woods will also miss the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, which begins on Thursday.
