The Trump administration has intensified efforts to monitor undocumented immigrants, prioritizing the removal of individuals involved in criminal activities, those who have ignored court orders to leave, and people who entered the country illegally.
For the Nepalese community in the U.S., the risk of deportation remains relatively low, as most members comply with legal requirements. Those without criminal records, who pay taxes, and are following the legal process are generally not at risk. Estimates suggest that out of approximately 5-6 million Nepalese in the U.S., around 2-3 million hold green cards, while others are students or in various stages of legal immigration procedures. According to legal experts, fewer than 3,000 Nepalese individuals are at risk of deportation.
The Trump administration’s policy primarily targets immigrants engaged in serious crimes such as murder, violence, rape, and gang-related activities. Additionally, strict border policies have been implemented to prevent illegal entry. However, individuals will not face deportation until they have exhausted their legal options or completed the court process.
This approach underscores the administration’s focus on enforcing immigration laws while ensuring due process for those affected.
