US President Donald Trump has announced that Gaza will be taken under American control.

In a joint press conference on Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Trump stated that the United States would take ownership of Gaza.

“We will take control of Gaza, and we will destroy all dangerous and unexploded bombs and other weapons there,” Trump said.

According to CNN, when journalists asked Trump if this meant sending American troops to Gaza, he did not deny the possibility.

“We will do what is necessary. If needed, we could do that as well. We will take control of Gaza and develop it,” Trump was quoted as saying by CNN. He further stated that taking ownership of Gaza would bring long-term stability not just to Gaza but to the entire Middle East.

After the ceasefire in Gaza, thousands of people have returned to their homes. Trump has stated that it is not yet appropriate for the Palestinians to return. “Gaza has become rubble. It is not suitable for living. Why are people returning? It would be better for them to live in other countries of the Middle East,” Trump said.

Trump also took credit for the ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages. He mentioned that pressure on Israel and Hamas had increased after his arrival as president.
