Two from same family die after eating wild mushroom

Two children from the same family have died after consuming wild mushrooms in Rukum East.

The deceased have been identified as 3-year-old Yojan Bk and 6-year-old Bhagyarekha Bk from Sherabang, Bhume Rural Municipality–5.

According to Rukum East District Police Office, Yojan died on Tuesday afternoon and Bhagyarekha passed away later that night while undergoing treatment at Rapti Academy of Health Sciences in Dang.

Two other members of the same family are in critical condition. They are the children’s mother, 35-year-old Ramkumari Sunar, and her 9-year-old daughter Ayusha Bk.

The family had eaten mushrooms collected from a nearby forest on Shrawan 2. They became ill soon after but only visited Rukum East Hospital on Shrawan 5. When treatment was not possible there, they were referred to Dang on Shrawan 6.

Two of them died during treatment, while the remaining two have now been referred to Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj.
