Liverpool, an English club, remained at the top of the group and qualified for the pre-quarterfinals despite losing their perfect record. In their final group game, Liverpool was defeated 3-2 by PSV Eindhoven, who made a comeback. Cody Gakpo scored for Liverpool from a penalty, giving them the lead, but PSV responded with goals from Johan Bakayo, Ismaila Sarr, and Ricardo Pepi. Harvey Elliott scored the second goal for Liverpool.

Along with Liverpool, three English clubs – Arsenal, and Aston Villa – made it to the final eight. Arsenal won 2-1 against Girona, while Villa defeated Celtic 4-2. Spanish clubs Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, Italian club Inter Milan, German club Bayer Leverkusen, and French club Lille also made it to the last 16.

Barcelona drew 2-2 with Atalanta in their final game, while Atlético Madrid defeated RB Salzburg 4-1. Inter Milan won 3-0 against Monaco, Bayer Leverkusen defeated Sparta Prague 2-0, and Lille crushed Feyenoord 6-1.

However, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, and AC Milan will need to play in the playoffs to reach the pre-quarterfinals.

A total of 36 clubs competed in the group stage, with the top 8 teams advancing directly to the pre-quarterfinals. Teams finishing in 9th to 24th place will play in the playoffs for a chance to reach the knockout stage, while teams finishing 25th and below have been eliminated.

The knockout phase will begin with the playoffs, followed by the last 16. Liverpool and Barcelona, who finished first and second in the group, will not meet until the final.
