Unni Mukundan Confirms 'Marco 2' Cancelled Amid Backlash, Promises a Bigger Comeback

Actor Unni Mukundan has officially announced that the much-anticipated sequel to his crime thriller Marco will no longer be happening. Despite the original film’s strong box office performance, the actor revealed that he has chosen to drop plans for Marco 2, citing the overwhelming negativity that surrounded the project.

“Too Much Negativity”: Unni Opens Up

In a recent Instagram interaction, Unni responded to a fan’s question—“Marco 2 kab ayegi?”—with a candid reply:

“Bro, apologies, but I have dropped plans to continue the Marco series. Too much negativity around the project. I’ll try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco. Thanks for all the love and positivity. Cheers.”

The revelation came as the actor shared a transformation video, possibly teasing his preparation for a new role. Though the announcement disappointed fans eagerly awaiting a continuation of Marco’s gripping storyline, Unni’s message hinted at new and exciting ventures on the horizon.

Why Was Marco 2 Shelved?

Directed by Haneef Adeni, Marco made headlines for its bold storytelling, gritty visuals, and complex characters. While it found commercial success, the film faced criticism for its explicit violence and moral ambiguity. These controversies, it seems, played a major role in Unni’s decision to scrap the sequel.

Veteran actor Jagadish, who portrayed the menacing antagonist Tony Isaac, had earlier addressed the backlash. In a public statement, he remarked:

“In Marco, my character supports violence. But does the audience like Tony Isaac or Jagadish? If it’s Jagadish they like, then let me be clear, I have never spoken in favour of violence.”

Looking Ahead

While Marco 2 is no longer in the pipeline, Unni Mukundan remains focused on the future. His recent posts have fueled speculation about an upcoming film, especially as he shared a workout video tagged with “#Reminder” — a possible signal that he’s gearing up for a new role.

Unni was last seen in Get Set Baby, directed by Vinay Govind, and fans are already eager to see what he brings next.

Though the curtains may have fallen on Marco, Unni’s promise to deliver a project that surpasses it has given fans something to look forward to — and perhaps, something even more thrilling.
