Sixteen people trapped in a fire at the commercial building, Central Plaza, in Itahari, Sunsari, have been rescued. Among those rescued, 11 are men and 5 are women.
The fire broke out at Central Plaza, located in Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-6, at around 9:30 AM, trapping the individuals inside.
To control the fire, personnel from the Armed Police Force, Nepal Police, Nepal Army, and local residents have been mobilized.
A team of 105 personnel, led by SSP Manish Thapa from the No. 1 Baraha Battalion of the Armed Police Force, along with six fire trucks from the Nepal Army and Nepal Police, is working to contain the fire.
As there is suspicion that more individuals might still be inside the plaza, a Nepal Army helicopter has also been deployed for the rescue operation. The Secretariat of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak confirmed the deployment of the helicopter, and aerial rescue efforts have begun.
Rescuers have reported that three people are still trapped inside the plaza, waiting to be rescued.
