The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has announced a massive $800 million renovation project for the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. At the heart of this transformation is a major upgrade to Arthur Ashe Stadium, the main court of the US Open.

Brian Vahaly, USTA chairman, said the project marks “the largest single investment in the history of this event.” The goal is to improve the experience for fans, players, and partners alike.

What’s Included in the Renovation?

  • Arthur Ashe Stadium Upgrades:
The 24,000-seat stadium will be reconfigured to add more courtside seats. The current 3,000 courtside seats will increase to around 5,000.
  • New Player Performance Center:
A state-of-the-art facility will be built to help players train and perform at the highest level.
  • Complex-Wide Improvements:
The entire tennis center will see enhancements aimed at offering better amenities for fans and players.

A Project for the Future

“This is an incredibly exciting moment for our sport and for the US Open,” Vahaly said. He emphasized that the upgrades will ensure the venue remains one of the top tennis destinations in the world for years to come.

No Public Money Involved

The $800 million cost is being privately funded, meaning no public money is being used for the renovations. According to USTA officials, the work has already started and is expected to be completed by 2027.

US Open Will Go On as Scheduled

Despite the ongoing renovations, the US Open will not be moved. This year’s tournament is set to take place from August 24 to September 7, and all matches will be held at the same location as usual.
