In celebration of Valentine’s Day, several celebrities share their cherished memories of their first dates with their spouses.
Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor
Sanjay reminisces about meeting Maheep in 1993 at the premiere of Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja in Delhi. Maheep, who had gatecrashed the event with a friend, caught his attention. The duo’s first official date followed at Bukhara for lunch, where Sanjay treated Maheep to the finest food in India. “More than me, the food did the trick!” he says, recalling how it marked the beginning of their journey together.
Aishwarya Sakhuja and Rohit Nag
Aishwarya remembers her first date with Rohit as an amusing experience. After a fine dining attempt that left them both hungry, they ended up walking barefoot on Juhu beach, enjoying street food like imli and ber. Aishwarya says, “It was very special because on the first date, we showed our true selves and felt comfortable doing so.”
Saumya Tandon and Saurabh Devendra Singh
For Saumya, her first date with Saurabh was unexpectedly rocky. After meeting in Mumbai, they had a disagreement within 30 minutes. Saumya shares that she was almost in tears but later received comforting words from her father. Despite the rough start, their love story grew, resembling a Harry Met Sally-style romance.
Ronit Bose Roy and Neelam Bose Roy
Ronit recalls that he and Neelam didn’t have a traditional first date. In fact, Neelam initially didn’t like him at all, even saying, “A person should never be like Ronit Roy!” Their journey together started with a mix of affection and disagreements, but they eventually married and built a family. Ronit reflects, “If that’s not love, what is?”
Mohit Malik and Aditi Malik Shirwaikar
Mohit’s first date with Aditi wasn’t conventional either. After an award night, he stopped the car near Haji Ali and proposed to her, asking if she would marry him. Aditi initially thought it was an April Fool’s joke, but Mohit’s heartfelt proposal won her over. “It was very much true and from the heart,” Mohit says of that moment.
Mohit Malik recalls, “The first time I truly remember wasn’t exactly a ‘date’. We were heading back from an award night, and I suddenly stopped the car right in front of Haji Ali. That moment turned into our first date when I asked her, point-blank, if she would marry me. It was right there, in front of Haji Ali. The funny part was that it was April 1, and she thought I was playing an April Fool’s joke on her. But it was all real and sincere. A few days later, she came around and was fine with it.”
