Candice King, best known for her role as Caroline Forbes in The Vampire Diaries, has announced her engagement to actor Steven Krueger, who played Josh Rosza in The Originals. The news broke on May 14 through a heartfelt Instagram post.
The proposal happened a few weeks ago, but King chose her birthday, May 13, to share the special news with fans. She called it the best gift she’s ever received and expressed her joy about sharing the future with Krueger.
“A couple of weeks ago, @stevenakrueger gave me the best gift of all when he asked me to marry him,” King wrote. “The privilege of getting older is much sweeter knowing I get to share it with you, Steven. Thank you for asking me to dance through life with you.”
To celebrate, the couple posed for a stylish photoshoot at one of their favorite Nashville spots, Martha My Dear. King wore a white satin mini dress with a lace bow, while Krueger looked sharp in a black suit. Her new engagement ring—a sparkling square-cut diamond—stood out in the snaps, taken by photographer Catherine Powell.
The post quickly drew excitement from fans and fellow Vampire Diaries stars. Nina Dobrev, who played Caroline’s best friend Elena Gilbert, commented “Congratulations,” while Michael Trevino, who played her on-screen love interest Tyler Lockwood, wrote, “Woo Hoo!!!! Love IT!” Riley Voelkel from The Originals also chimed in with, “Omg screaming!!!! So happy for you both!!!!”
Many other cast members from both series shared their love and excitement in the comments, turning the post into an impromptu reunion.
King and Krueger made their relationship public in December 2023 on Instagram. This will be King’s second marriage. She was previously married to Joe King, guitarist of The Fray. They split in 2022 and share two daughters, Florence and Josephine.
King described turning 38 as her favorite year yet—made even more memorable by a sparkling ring and a fresh start with someone new.
