Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has signed a new two-year contract, securing his place at Anfield for the upcoming seasons. The 33-year-old centre-back’s previous contract was set to expire at the end of this season, but he has now pledged his future to the club alongside Mohamed Salah, who also signed an extension last week.

A Proud Moment for Van Dijk

“It’s a proud feeling, it’s a feeling of joy. It’s just incredible,” said Van Dijk, expressing his happiness about extending his career at Liverpool. Reflecting on his journey, he added, “To be able to extend it with another two years at this club is amazing, and I’m so happy.”

A Future at Liverpool

Van Dijk had previously been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), but the Dutch international made it clear that Liverpool was always his priority. “It was always Liverpool. That was the case. It was always in my head, it was always the plan, and it was always Liverpool,” he said. “There wasn’t any doubt in my head that this is the place to be for me and my family.”

The 33-year-old, who has become an integral part of Liverpool’s defense, shared his pride in being part of the club, stating, “Someone called me the other day an adopted Scouser – I’m really proud to hear these things, it gives me a great feeling.”

Van Dijk’s Impact at Liverpool

Since joining Liverpool from Southampton for £75 million in January 2018, Van Dijk has been a key figure in the team’s success. He has helped guide the Reds to win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Club World Cup, and EFL Cup twice.

With Liverpool aiming for a record-equalling 20th English league title, Van Dijk has played an essential role in their progress under manager Arne Slot, who is in his first season with the club.

As Liverpool continues to grow under Slot’s leadership, Van Dijk’s renewed commitment, alongside Salah’s, will be crucial in the club’s continued pursuit of major trophies.
