Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma were spotted at the Mumbai airport on Thursday, returning after the tragic incident that overshadowed Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL victory celebration. Dressed casually—Virat in a beige shirt and jeans, and Anushka in a black T-shirt and denim—they kept a low profile. Both wore sunglasses and avoided the waiting photographers, walking quietly and seriously to their car without any interaction.
Stampede Turns Celebration Into Nightmare
On Wednesday, during RCB’s victory parade at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, a massive crowd surge led to a deadly stampede. The tragedy took the lives of 11 people and injured 33. What was supposed to be a day of celebration for RCB fans turned into chaos, reportedly due to overcrowding and lack of crowd control.
Virat & Anushka React to the Tragedy
Virat Kohli expressed his sorrow on Instagram, sharing RCB’s official statement. He wrote, “At a loss for words. Absolutely gutted.” Anushka Sharma also posted the same statement with a series of broken-heart emojis, expressing her emotional response to the devastating news.
RCB’s Official Statement
The team’s statement read:
“We are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents that have come to light through media reports regarding public gatherings all over Bengaluru in anticipation of the team’s arrival this afternoon. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us.
RCB mourns the tragic loss of lives and extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families. Immediately upon being made aware of the situation, we promptly amended our program, and followed the guidance and advice of the local administration. We urge all our supporters to please stay safe.”
RCB’s Historic Win Overshadowed
Just a day before the tragedy, RCB had secured their first-ever IPL title by defeating Punjab Kings in the final match held in Ahmedabad. The historic win, however, has now been clouded by this heartbreaking incident.
