Virat Kohli’s Accidental Like Turns Into Social Media Gold for Avneet Kaur

An unexpected social media moment last week turned into a viral sensation involving cricketer Virat Kohli and actor Avneet Kaur. It all started when Kohli’s official Instagram account accidentally liked a photo posted by a fan page dedicated to Avneet. Though he quickly unliked the image, screenshots of the interaction had already gone viral—igniting a meme fest and countless online discussions.

Kohli’s Clarification

As speculation grew, Kohli addressed the incident on Instagram Stories. Without mentioning Avneet or the post directly, he stated:

Virat Kohlis

“I’d like to clarify that while clearing my feed, it appears the algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction. There was absolutely no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made.”

Despite his statement, memes mocking the phrase “registered an interaction” flooded social platforms. Both Kohli and Avneet began trending over the weekend as netizens continued dissecting the episode.

A Fortunate Turn for Avneet Kaur

While Kohli faced social media scrutiny, Avneet Kaur experienced a sudden surge in popularity. Within days, she gained over a million new Instagram followers, pushing her total to 31.8 million—more than Bollywood stars Janhvi Kapoor and Ananya Panday.

According to digital analytics firm BuzzCraft, the value of Avneet’s sponsored posts jumped from ₹2 lakh to ₹2.6 lakh. Additionally, reports indicate she landed 12 new brand endorsements in the wake of the incident.

Social media strategist Neha Kapoor described the event as “organic marketing gold,” noting that such accidental exposure is rare but highly impactful.

Who is Avneet Kaur?

Avneet began her journey in entertainment at age 8 with Zee TV’s Dance India Dance Li’l Masters. She made her acting debut in 2012 with Meri Maa and went on to appear in popular shows like Savitri, Ek Mutthi Aasmaan, Chandra Nandini, and Aladdin – Naam Toh Suna Hoga. She made her big screen debut with Mardaani in 2014 and recently starred in Tiku Weds Sheru as a lead opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

What started as an accidental ‘like’ ended up being a career-boosting moment for Avneet—proving yet again the unpredictable power of social media.
