Comedian Samay Raina is at the center of controversy over remarks made by Ranveer Allahbadia on his show India’s Got Latent. After issuing an apology, Samay received support from filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri. However, Vivek’s attempt to connect Samay’s situation to the Kashmiri Pandit issue left many people confused online.
Vivek expressed his support for Samay on X (formerly Twitter), after Samay’s public apology. He posted, “Today, as a Kashmiri Pandit, @ReheSamay must have experienced how it feels when people who don’t agree with you come to lynch you. Welcome to the club.”
This came after Samay shared his thoughts about the controversy on social media. He announced that he had removed all episodes of India’s Got Latent from his channel and pledged full cooperation with authorities. He wrote, “Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all India’s Got Latent videos from my channel. My only goal was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you.”
Vivek’s tweet raised a lot of questions on social media. Many people were puzzled by the comparison between Samay’s situation and the Kashmiri Pandit issue. Some comments included, “Is this a Kashmiri Pandit issue?” and “How stupid of you to compare these two events.” Others pointed out that it wasn’t the same thing, saying, “This is an improper comparison. Speaking the truth and getting abused is different from making indecent content and getting abused.” Many also felt the connection didn’t make sense, with one person saying it was an “insult to KPs.”
The controversy began when Ranveer Allahbadia made an inappropriate comment about parents during his appearance on Samay’s show. The joke was widely criticized, and Ranveer later apologized, admitting that the comment was wrong. He said, “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte, I am just here to say sorry. Family is the last thing I would ever disrespect.”
Despite the apologies from both Samay and Ranveer, the issue continues to stir up attention. An FIR has been filed against the show’s team, including Samay and Ranveer, for posting “objectionable” content.
