The office of Ward No. 4 in Sakhuwan Prasauni Rural Municipality, Parsa, was vandalized last night. According to the rural municipality chairperson Jaswant Yadav, a group of 5 to 6 people broke into the office and damaged furniture including chairs, tables, fans, and drawers.
“The lock was broken and some official documents seem to have been stolen. Several items inside the office like drawers, tables, fans, and chairs have been damaged. We are preparing to file a police complaint against those involved,” said Chairperson Yadav.
He suspects the attack might be linked to the ward office’s refusal to recommend Nepali citizenship to an Indian citizen. “I heard there was pressure on the ward chairperson to recommend citizenship for an Indian citizen. But how can that be approved? I’ve also heard that the ward chairperson is preparing to take legal action against those people,” Yadav added.
Ward Chairperson Arif Ansari said the group entered the office at night and broke 12 chairs and 3 drawers. They also stole letter pads, an official stamp, and a laptop.
“I had been under pressure for the past six months to recommend citizenship for an Indian citizen. I also received threats. The same group carried out the vandalism. I’ve already filed a case against them at the Parsa District Police Office,” Ansari said.
SP Gautam Mishra of Parsa said that a police team reached the site as soon as they got the report and that an investigation is underway.
