Internet Outages in Nepal

Since yesterday(January 2), internet users across the country have been facing widespread connectivity issues, with both fixed broadband and cellular networks experiencing slow speeds or complete outages. The disruption has affected major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) such as WorldLink, Vianet, and others, as well as mobile networks including NTC and Ncell, particularly during the nighttime hours.

The ongoing network interruptions are causing significant inconvenience, with users struggling to access basic services like online communication, work-related tasks, and streaming. As the nation remains dependent on digital connectivity for various personal, professional, and educational activities, the issue has raised concerns about the reliability of the country’s internet infrastructure.

Despite the severity of the situation, no authorized body, including the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), has officially addressed or provided an explanation for the widespread outages, leaving customers without answers or a timeline for resolution. This lack of communication has only added to the frustration of affected users.

The outages have been especially problematic for those in critical sectors who rely on stable internet connections for their work. Remote work, online education, healthcare services, and even banking have been severely disrupted, leading to a growing sense of urgency among users and businesses alike.

Industry experts have called for immediate action to investigate and resolve the issue, as the widespread disruptions threaten to affect daily operations, and could potentially lead to missed deadlines, delayed services, and economic setbacks for businesses.

“The internet is no longer a luxury but a necessity for day-to-day functioning, and these disruptions cannot be allowed to continue without explanation or resolution,” said a concerned business owner. “We depend on reliable internet connections to serve clients, conduct meetings, and manage operations. The lack of reliable service is jeopardizing our ability to function properly.”

For now, affected users are advised to report the issues to their respective service providers, though there has been no official confirmation regarding when the problem will be resolved. As frustrations continue to grow, the hope remains that the authorities will intervene and address this critical issue before it causes further disruption to the economy and the public.

The citizens and businesses of Nepal are now calling for swift action, transparency, and improved communication from the concerned authorities to prevent further disruption and safeguard the interests of those affected by the ongoing network failures.
