Former Houston news anchor ‘Chauncy Glover’ tragically passed away in November, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has now ruled his death accidental. According to the report, Glover’s cause of death was “acute intoxication” due to methamphetamine and chloroethane, a chemical often used as a local anesthetic. Fire department personnel found Glover unresponsive at his Los Angeles home on November 5, 2023, and he was pronounced dead just before 1 a.m. The full medical report is expected by the end of March.

Shock and Grief from His Community and Beyond

Glover’s death shocked both his family and fans across the nation. Known for his groundbreaking role as Houston’s first Black male evening anchor at ABC13, Glover left behind a significant legacy. He worked at ABC13 from 2015 to 2023 and had a varied career that included stints in Detroit, Jacksonville, and Columbus, before moving to Los Angeles. His family described him as a “beacon of light” and a “true hero” to his community, expressing their profound grief at his sudden loss.

Legal Controversy Surrounds His Final Months

In the months leading up to his death, Glover was involved in a lawsuit filed by former KCAL anchor Jeff Vaughn. Vaughn claimed he was fired due to discrimination, alleging that the station dismissed him for being an “older, white heterosexual man.” Vaughn’s legal team criticized the station’s diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, arguing that Glover, at the time of his hire, had “minimal” experience for his age. The lawsuit added a layer of controversy to Glover’s final months in Los Angeles.

Chauncy Glover’s Lasting Impact Through Mentorship

Beyond his career in journalism, Glover was deeply committed to helping youth through his nonprofit, the Chauncy Glover Project, which he founded in 2014. The project focused on mentoring Black and Hispanic young men, providing them with leadership training, college prep, and scholarship opportunities. Since its inception, the program has mentored over 1,000 young men, sending 350 to college with scholarships. In honor of his community service, the City of Houston proclaimed November 3 as “Chauncy Glover Day.”

A Legacy of Service and Dedication

Though his life was cut short, Glover’s contributions to both journalism and his community continue to inspire. His legacy lives on through the Chauncy Glover Project and the countless lives he touched through his mentorship, leadership, and compassion.
