Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is preparing to release his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par. However, before the film hits the screens, a section of social media users has started calling for a boycott of the movie.
Why Are Fans Calling Sitaare Zameen Par for a Boycott?
The backlash against Aamir Khan mainly stems from two issues: his delayed public support for Operation Sindoor and an old video of him visiting Turkey that has resurfaced online.
Belated Support for Operation Sindoor Sparks Controversy
Since Aamir Khan is not active on social media, his production house, Aamir Khan Productions, often issues official statements for him. Recently, the production company posted a congratulatory message for the Indian Armed Forces’ Operation Sindoor — a retaliatory strike against terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the Pahalgam terror attack.
However, many netizens criticized the timing of this message. They say the post came too late and appeared to be a publicity stunt timed just before the trailer launch of his new movie. This has led some to accuse Aamir Khan of opportunism and insincerity.
Old Video of Aamir Khan in Turkey Adds Fuel to the Fire
Adding to the controversy, an old clip showing Aamir Khan meeting Turkey’s First Lady, Emine Erdogan, has gone viral again. Turkey’s reported support for Pakistan has caused some users to question Khan’s loyalties and link his past actions to their boycott demands.
One social media user wrote, “Amir Khan didn’t post on the Pahalgam attack so it’s time. After a successful Boycott Turkey Tourism campaign, it’s time to boycott Amir Khan’s new movie Sitaare Zameen Par. He visited Turkey and met the Turkish President & his wife — Turkey supports Pakistan.”
