A tragic event unfolded in Rapti Municipality-4, Chitwan, where a Chepang couple jumped off a cliff after a domestic dispute. The wife, 42-year-old Kumari Praja Chepang, died after hitting her head on a rock, while her husband, 47-year-old Lilabahadur Praja Chepang, was seriously injured and is now being treated at Bharatpur Hospital.
According to police spokesperson Rabindra Khanal, the couple had a heated argument before deciding to jump from the cliff near Khahare Khola around noon on Tuesday. Lilabahadur reportedly tried to save his wife but fell as well. He suffered ear bleeding and hip injuries, while Kumari died instantly.
Ward chairperson Kedar Acharya, who reached the scene, shared that locals claimed the couple had been drinking before the fight. Kumari had threatened to jump, and her husband followed in an attempt to stop her.
The fall was only about 10 meters, but the rocky terrain proved fatal. Ward officials noted that only a few Chepang families live in that remote border area between wards 4 and 5, and such disputes are sadly not uncommon in the community.
