Wife Plots Husbands Murder for Insurance Money

Two months ago, 49-year-old Siyaram Rana of Bhurakot, Belauri Municipality–6, Kanchanpur, was found dead inside his house. Police have revealed that his wife orchestrated his murder. According to the police, his wife Janak Kumari used an Indian national to carry out the murder to claim insurance money.

During the investigation, the police detained Siyaram Rana’s wife, Janak Kumari, and a 30-year-old Indian national, Farukh.

Siyaram was found dead in his house on the 13th of Mangsir (late November). The following day, the police detained his wife, Janak Kumari, and began an investigation. As the investigation progressed, the involvement of an Indian national came to light, and the police took Farukh, a resident of Sampurna Nagar in Lakhimpur Kheri District, Uttar Pradesh, India, into custody.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Umesh Raj Joshi, spokesperson for the District Police Office, stated that the investigation revealed Janak Kumari and Indian national Farukh were jointly responsible for Siyaram’s murder. “Although Farukh devised the plan, the murder was executed by the wife herself, as per her statement to the police,” he said.2

Siyaram Rana had a life insurance policy worth NPR 2.8 million with Nepal Life Insurance. DSP Joshi stated that the murder was motivated by the intent to claim the insurance money.

The district court remanded Siyaram’s wife, Janak Kumari, to custody on the 8th of Poush (late December) for further proceedings. Meanwhile, the Indian national, recently arrested, is being investigated under a 10-day remand for murder charges.

According to the police, Farukh was involved in smuggling goods across the Nepal-India border. It was during this activity that he became acquainted with Janak Kumari.

After committing the murder, they reported to the police that Siyaram had died after slipping in the toilet. However, the body was found in a corner of the house’s gallery, covered with a blanket. Upon discovering injuries on the head and scalp, the police suspected foul play and initiated a detailed investigation. During a search of the house, bloodstains were found on various items such as the room, chair, and door.

A bloodstained brick was discovered under the bed, and clothes belonging to both men and women were found soaked in blood in a wardrobe.

During questioning, Siyaram’s wife, Janak Kumari, confessed that an argument had occurred between them in the morning, and she killed him by striking him with a brick while he was sleeping in the afternoon, DSP Joshi stated. She was subsequently arrested and charged.

During further investigation, the police found evidence of her collaboration with Farukh in committing the murder, leading to his arrest and an ongoing investigation.
