Wildfire in Kavre's Mahabharat Forest

A wildfire in the Mahabharat Community Forest of Kavre has gone out of control during mid-winter. The fire started at 2 PM on Tuesday in Thamlek Hill of Khanikhola Rural Municipality-1 and is still not under control, according to the District Police Office.

Kavre Police Chief SP Basundhara Khadka said that as soon as they received information about the fire, a team from the Phalametar Police Post, security personnel, forest division staff, and local representatives have been working together to extinguish the fire.

The steep terrain of the forest has made it difficult to control the flames quickly. Although teams from the army and police have been deployed, she explained that immediate control of the fire has not been possible.

The fire is approximately 4 kilometers north of the nearest village. So far, there have been no reports of damage to people or livestock. Security personnel monitor the situation to ensure the fire does not reach human settlements. If any risk arises, locals will be relocated to safer areas immediately, she added.
