Renowned wildlife photographer Chungba Sherpa has passed away. The 64-year-old Sherpa died at 12:15 AM today while undergoing treatment at Grande International Hospital.
A permanent resident of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-1, Lukla, Sherpa had been receiving treatment for liver-related issues for the past week. He was placed on a ventilator during his treatment, but unfortunately, he passed away, as confirmed by Phunuru Sherpa, Ward Chair of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-1.
Sherpa is survived by two sons and three daughters. He had long been associated with the Nepali Congress and was also involved in politics. Sherpa served as the president of the Nepali Congress Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality Committee and had contested for the chairmanship of the rural municipality in the past two elections.
Active in the tourism business, Sherpa was also a former chairman of the Chaurikharka Village Development Committee (VDC). In recent years, he had dedicated himself to wildlife photography and was affiliated with various national and international photography organizations.
