Kathmandu police have arrested a woman on charges of extortion after she allegedly lured a man into a honey trap by calling him to her room under the pretext of repairing a rice cooker.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Asmita Acharya from Ratnanagar Municipality-8 in Chitwan, was residing in Kuleshwar, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-13. She was taken into custody by a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office.
According to the police, Acharya repeatedly contacted an electrician, asking him to come to her room to fix a rice cooker. However, once the man arrived, she allegedly threatened to falsely accuse him of sexual assault if he did not give her money. She also warned him that she would report the matter to both the police and his family. Fearing consequences, the victim was forced to pay the demanded amount.
After receiving a complaint, authorities launched an investigation, leading to Acharya’s arrest. The police stated that she had been using this tactic to extort money from unsuspecting individuals.
She has now been handed over to the District Police Office, Kathmandu, for further investigation and legal proceedings under extortion-related charges.
