A 23-year-old woman lost her life after being swept away by the Hewa River, which flows between Fidim-4 and Hilihang-7 in Panchthar district.
The deceased has been identified as Manisha Angbo, daughter of Ratna Kumar Angbo from Falelung Rural Municipality-7, Papunden, according to District Police Office Panchthar spokesperson Rupesh Tamang.
Manisha was rescued while being swept by the river near the Hilihang side, where a group of people were working on constructing a diversion. She was pulled from the water by the team and handed over to police and locals, who rushed her to Panchthar Hospital.
Unfortunately, doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
Police are still investigating whether Manisha was accidentally swept away or intentionally jumped into the river. Her body has been kept at Panchthar Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Family members have been informed to come and receive the body.
