A young man was attacked with a khukuri in Siraha after a dispute over a minor motorcycle incident. The incident took place in Dangraha Tole, Lahan Municipality-3.
According to police, the incident happened last Wednesday. The dispute started when a motorcycle ridden by 21-year-old Manish Mahato, son of local Jibach Mahato, slightly touched 27-year-old Devkumar Mahato, son of Nathuni Mahato. The argument soon turned violent.
A video circulating on social media shows a group of people beating Devkumar, and one person attacking him with a khukuri. Police said the attackers seen in the video are members of Jibach Mahato’s family.
Three people have been taken into police custody: Jivbch Mahato, his 60-year-old wife Sitadevi Mahato, and their son Manish. The arrest was made based on an attempted murder complaint filed by the victim’s side, said DSP Kailash Rai of the Area Police Office, Lahan.
However, 19-year-old Mukesh Mahato, another son of Jivach and the person accused of using the khukuri, is still on the run. Police are searching for him.
Devkumar, who was seriously injured in the attack, is being treated at Birat Nursing Home in Biratnagar. He suffered injuries to his head, neck, back, and other parts of his body. Police said his condition is now stable.
