A young man was stabbed to death during a Holi celebration, leading his family and locals to stage a protest by placing his body on the road.
The protest took place on the Janakpur-Jaleshwor road section, where the body of 18-year-old Ashu Yadav was laid by his family and locals, blocking the roadway.
According to Dhanusha police spokesperson DSP Barun Bahadur Singh, the protesters demanded the immediate arrest of others involved in the incident and compensation for the victim’s family.
The fatal stabbing happened around 5 PM on Saturday when a dispute broke out during the Holi celebrations. Dharmendra Mahato, 21, son of resident Laxman Mahato, allegedly attacked Ashu with a knife, stabbing him in the chest, back, and stomach.
Ashu was rushed to Provincial Hospital Janakpur but succumbed to his injuries around 6 PM the same evening. Police quickly arrested Dharmendra along with the weapon used in the attack.
Ashu’s body was sent for post-mortem at the Provincial Hospital. Following the autopsy, his family and locals took to the streets, demanding justice and strict action against those responsible.
