12th National Costume and Topi Day

The 12th National Costume and Topi Day was celebrated today with various events organized by the Jagaruk Yuva Abhiyan Nepal.

The day was observed under the slogan “Nepali Topi: Our Identity,” with youth actively participating. National Costume and Topi Day has been celebrated since 2013 (2070 BS) to promote traditional Nepali attire such as Daura Suruwal, topi, and Gunyo Cholo among the younger generation.

On this occasion, many people posted photos of themselves wearing traditional Nepali attire on social media. The number of people seen wearing national costumes on streets and in public transport also increased significantly. The celebration of National Costume Day began 12 years ago on January 1. Since its inception, more young people have started wearing traditional attire not only on January 1 but also during cultural events such as weddings and bratabandha ceremonies.

There has been a resurgence in the use of traditional Nepali costumes, which had been gradually forgotten by the youth. This campaign was initiated by proactive youths following the removal of the formal status of the national costume. –NepalPress
