A team led by the Ward Chairperson attacked the police, prompting authorities to fire shots in the air to bring the situation under control. One traffic police constable sustained serious injuries in the attack.
The incident occurred last night at around 9 PM at Baijnath Chowk, Ramnagar Rural Municipality-5, during a dispute that arose while traffic police were conducting vehicle and alcohol checks.
Constable Salindra Ray, stationed at the temporary traffic police post in Gadahiya, suffered severe head injuries during the attack by locals. He is currently undergoing treatment at Neuro Hospital in Janakpur, according to the District Police Office.
The police reported that the incident took place when locals, led by Ramnagar Rural Municipality-5 Ward Chairperson Shivnandan Ray Yadav, attacked traffic police on duty. As tensions escalated, police fired five rounds into the air, after which the locals dispersed.
