Cold Wave Halts Traffic Again in Daunne

The East-West Highway in Daunne, West Nawalparasi, has once again been blocked for vehicular movement. Although the road, which had been obstructed since Tuesday night, was briefly opened for one-way traffic during the day, it was blocked again later that night.

The road became slippery due to the cold wave, causing issues for vehicles from Tuesday night onward. The District Police Office, West Nawalparasi, reported that traffic has been completely halted as the dirt road became muddy, increasing the risk of accidents. Both directions of the road currently have long lines of vehicles in the morning.

Passengers have faced significant difficulties due to the overnight traffic jam. Some passengers even walked through the Daunne section overnight. Mohammed Izhar Sheikh, a traveler returning to Nawalparasi from Kathmandu, shared that it took him three hours to cross the muddy road on foot.

Vehicles have collided in several spots due to the slippery conditions, which the police say will take time to fully resume traffic operations.

The ongoing road expansion work on the Narayanghat-Butwal section has exacerbated the issue, as the construction activity has made the road muddier, creating additional challenges. Repeated disruptions in the Daunne section have caused consistent hardships for travelers.
