The European Commission has announced an investment of €1.3 billion (around $1.41 billion) in artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, data security, and cybersecurity by 2027.
This funding is part of the Digital Europe Program, aimed at boosting key technologies and strengthening Europe’s technological independence.

The investment will focus on:
- Advancing AI: Improving the availability and accessibility of generative AI applications.
- Enhancing Cybersecurity: Strengthening the EU’s resilience against cyber threats.
- Building Digital Earth Models: Developing powerful digital models to support climate adaptation and disaster risk management.
- Promoting Digital Education: Supporting digital training programs and helping institutions develop advanced digital skills.
A Long-Term Digital Transformation Plan
The Digital Europe Program has a total budget of €8.1 billion for the period 2021 to 2027. It is designed to support businesses and citizens in adapting to the digital transformation.
