Pokhara Thunders have officially advanced to the playoffs of the Nepal Super League (NSL) 2025, becoming the third team to do so.
In their final league match held at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor on Tuesday, Pokhara secured a crucial 2-0 win over Butwal Lumbini. The victory was powered by goals from Ayush Ghalan and William Biassi.
Must-Win Match for Pokhara Thunders
This game marked the final league appearance for both teams. Pokhara needed nothing less than a win to qualify for the playoffs, while Butwal Lumbini, already out of playoff contention, aimed to end their campaign on a high note with a victory. However, Pokhara Thunder stook control with a confident display from the start.
Early Lead and Solid Finish
Ayush Ghalan opened the scoring for Pokhara Thunders as early as the 10th minute, giving his team a much-needed early advantage. Pokhara created several more chances in the first half but couldn’t convert them. Butwal also came close to equalizing but lacked the finishing touch.
In the second half, William Biassi added to the scoreline with a goal in the 58th minute, sealing the win for Pokhara.
Impact on Playoff Race
With this result, Jhapa FC has been eliminated from the playoff race even before their final match. Kathmandu RayZrs, who have already completed their league fixtures, now rely on the outcome of the upcoming match between Chitwan and Dhangadhi to determine their playoff fate.
The last league match between FC Chitwan and Dhangadhi FC is scheduled for Thursday. Chitwan must win the game to reach the playoffs.
What’s Next for Pokhara?
Having made it to the playoffs, Pokhara Thunders will now play in the Eliminator round as the postseason action heats up.
