Two Indian Nationals Caught with Gold and Silver Plated Jewelry in Ilam

Two Indian citizens have been arrested from Suryodaya Municipality-2, Charmile, Ilam, with jewelry coated in gold and silver worth over NPR 3.2 million.

According to the Armed Police Force of Nepal, 38-year-old Abhinash Bodh and 35-year-old Ravi Kumar from Himachal Pradesh, India, were caught while heading towards India with suspicious goods. Acting on a tip-off, a security team from the proposed Border Security Base Pashupatinagar intercepted the duo on Sunday.

Upon inspection, police discovered 17.4 kilograms of silver-coated and 5 kilograms of gold-plated jewelry hidden in their bags, along with various other items.

Lab tests confirmed that the seized ornaments were coated with gold and silver, not made of pure precious metals. The two suspects have been handed over to the Customs Office, Pashupatinagar, Ilam, for further investigation.
