Son Suk-Ku Announces Acting Hiatus: “It’s Time for a New Chapter”

South Korean actor Son Suk-Ku has officially announced that he will be taking a break from acting, leaving fans emotional and reflective about his impactful body of work. The 42-year-old star, who recently appeared in Heavenly Ever After and the Disney+ thriller Nine Puzzles, shared the news during a candid interview with Sports Seoul.

Wrapping Up Commitments Before Stepping Away

Son revealed that while he is currently wrapping up ongoing projects, he has already made up his mind to step back from the relentless pace of the industry. “I’m still working without resting, but I plan to take quite a long break after finishing what I’ve already taken on,” he shared.

A Need for Change

Discussing the reason behind this major decision, the actor explained that he has reached a point in his career where he no longer feels the need to chase back-to-back projects. “Creating a large number of works requires an incredible amount of time and effort. I thought it was time to bring some change by trying to act in a different way,” Son expressed. He hinted that he is now more interested in seeking deeper, more meaningful ways to express himself through art.

Never Chased the Spotlight

Interestingly, Son also admitted that he never aspired to be a top-billed star. Despite earning widespread praise for his performances in projects like My Liberation Notes, D.P., and A Killer Paradox, the actor stated that he has always preferred ensemble casts over solo stardom. “I never had ambitions of being the ‘one-top’ lead,” he said, adding that collaboration and synergy with his co-stars have always mattered more to him than spotlight roles.

Looking Ahead

While Son Suk-Ku is temporarily stepping away from the screen, he’s not stepping away from creativity. He revealed that he is currently working on several screenplays and is excited about exploring unfamiliar challenges. “I do have a dream,” he said, “I want to take on challenges I haven’t tried before.”

A Celebrated Career

Son Suk-Ku has carved a niche for himself in the Korean entertainment industry with standout performances in TV dramas such as Matrimonial Chaos, Designated Survivor: 60 Days, My Liberation Notes, and D.P.. On the film front, he has impressed audiences with roles in The Roundup, Nothing Serious, and A Killer Paradox. With his break now official, fans are hopeful that his return—whenever it may be—will mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his creative journey.
