RSP MPs Sit Silent in Well as Protest Continues

Lawmakers from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), known for their fiery protests, chose a silent form of resistance in Parliament on Thursday. Still demanding Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak’s resignation and the formation of a parliamentary probe into the visit visa scam, the MPs took their positions in the well of the House but refrained from shouting slogans.

Instead, some were seen flipping through budget documents, some quietly scrolling on their phones, and others listening attentively to ongoing speeches. A few even banged their hands on the desk in support when like-minded MPs voiced similar concerns.

Before moving to the well, MP Hari Dhakal raised direct questions to the Home Minister. He accused the government of ignoring the massive visa scam, where thousands of Nepali youths were allegedly exploited. He questioned why the human trafficking bureau was removed from the airport, why unqualified staff were added there, and why several suspicious transfers—like that of DIGs—took place recently.

When Home Minister Lekhak responded vaguely, Dhakal and his party called it a mockery of the voices of ordinary citizens. RSP MPs then moved into the well as a symbolic protest.

Although earlier protests included shouting and slogan chants, this time the party shifted to silent defiance—still determined to keep pressure on the government.
