After traveling nearly 900 kilometers from Tehran, 11 Nepali citizens safely reached the Iranian city of Masad on Sunday night. They were moved there as part of a planned rescue by the Indian Embassy in Iran.
“We arrived safely and are staying in a hotel now. There were no problems on the road. The Indian side has assured us we’ll be sent back soon,” said Hari Thapa from Udayapur, who is among the group along with his wife Gayatri Karki Thapa and son Utsav.
The group also includes Bishnu Prasad Bhusal, Buddhi Bhusal, Sagar Paudel, Ganesh Pokharel, Suman Gaire, Bishnu Prasad Banjade, Yagya Marasini, and Raju Khanal. However, Banjade may not be able to fly immediately due to missing passport documents.
These individuals, aged between 8 and 24, had been working in various embassies and Iranian restaurants in Tehran. The Nepali Embassy in Doha confirmed it is coordinating efforts to assist them.
Meanwhile, five more Nepalis remain jailed in Tehran, and efforts are ongoing to rescue them as well.
