A local leader of the Young Communist League (YCL) in Rukum West has been arrested on charges of raping a 17-year-old girl. the case has raised serious concerns about abuse of power and justice for victims.
Accused remained on the run for weeks
The arrested man is 30-year-old Resham Khatri, a member of the Karnali Province Committee of the Maoist-affiliated youth wing, YCL. according to DSP Pramesh Bista of the District Police Office, the victim filed a complaint on Jestha 18, accusing Khatri of rape. despite launching an investigation soon after, police were unable to trace him immediately as he had gone into hiding.
Arrest made in Sani Bheri
Police recently received information that Khatri was staying in Sani Bheri Rural Municipality. based on that tip, a team was mobilized, and he was arrested. police say further investigation is ongoing.
