A tragic jeep accident occurred in Himali Rural Municipality of Bajura district on Thursday morning, resulting in three deaths and injuries to 13 others.
The accident took place when a jeep (Ba Pa 03–001 Ja 0338), traveling from Kyudi village to the ward office in Kawadi, lost control and crashed. According to Inspector Dev Bahadur Chaudhary of the District Police Office, two people died at the scene, and one died during rescue efforts.
Army Helicopter Used for Emergency Rescue
The Nepal Army dispatched a helicopter to evacuate the injured. Among the rescued were:
- Gauri Budha (23, driver)
- Banchalal Rokaya (35)
- Bhadouri Rokaya (70)
- Banchdhan Rokaya (22)
- Bir Bahadur Rokaya (45)
They were airlifted to the Provincial Hospital in Surkhet for further treatment, confirmed Assistant Chief District Officer Sheetal Bahadur Rawal. He said that due to limited space, the evacuation was carried out in multiple trips.
Overcrowding Suspected as Cause
Inspector Chaudhary stated that the jeep was carrying more passengers than its capacity on a rough, unpaved road. The deceased have been identified as:
- Bijoura Rokaya (76)
- Banchkala Rokaya (75)
- Juneli Rokaya (35), who died during rescue
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are urging travelers in remote regions to avoid overcrowded transport to prevent such tragedies.
