Legendary Telugu Actress and Producer C Krishnaveni Passes Away at 102

Veteran Telugu actress and producer C Krishnaveni, aged 102, passed away in Hyderabad on Sunday due to age-related health complications, as confirmed by Movie Artistes Association (MAA) Vice-President Madala Ravi.

Krishnaveni, a prominent figure in the Telugu film industry, made significant contributions both as an actor and a producer. Born in West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, she made her acting debut in the 1938 film Kacha Devayani and went on to feature in over 40 films. She is also remembered for introducing legendary actor and former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao (NTR) to the film world through the film Mana Desam, in which she also performed.

In addition to her acting career, Krishnaveni was a successful producer, establishing her own family-run studio, which produced around a dozen films, including Bhishma and Dakshayagnam. Her immense contributions to the industry were recognized in 2004 when she was awarded the prestigious Raghupathi Venkaiah Award. Krishnaveni was known not only for acting but also for her remarkable musical talent, often singing her own songs and providing vocals for the actress Anjali Devi in the film Keelu Gurram.

The news of her passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed his sorrow, remembering her legacy in Telugu cinema, especially her role in introducing NTR. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Naidu wrote, “The passing of Krishnaveni saddens me deeply. Her contribution to the film industry, particularly in introducing NTR with Mana Desam, remains unforgettable. My deepest condolences to her family.”

Deputy Chief Minister and actor Pawan Kalyan also expressed his condolences in a heartfelt note, calling Krishnaveni the “first woman producer” in the Telugu film industry. He praised her for her multifaceted talents as an actor, singer, producer, and studio head, and for introducing influential figures like NTR and Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao to the industry.

MAA President Vishnu Manchu paid tribute to Krishnaveni on X, saying, “A legendary light in Telugu cinema has dimmed with Krishnaveni Garu’s passing. She introduced NTR to the big screen with her hard work, leaving a priceless gift to the industry. Her memory will forever live on in our hearts. Deepest condolences to her family. Om Shanti.”

Krishnaveni’s remarkable legacy will continue to be remembered in the hearts of many who cherished her contributions to Telugu cinema.
