Carlo Ancelotti has admitted he’s unsure about his future as Real Madrid’s head coach following their disappointing 2-1 loss to Arsenal in the Champions League quarterfinals. The defeat, which saw Arsenal advance 5-1 on aggregate, has left the legendary Italian coach reflecting on what’s next for him at the club.

Ancelotti’s Uncertain Future at Madrid

Despite being the most successful manager in Champions League history with five titles, Ancelotti faced tough questions after the loss at Santiago Bernabéu. When asked if the match would be his last Champions League game in charge of Madrid, Ancelotti responded with uncertainty: “I don’t know. Maybe the club will decide to make a change. It could be this year or next year, when my contract runs out.”

Ancelotti emphasized that, regardless of when his tenure ends, he will always remain grateful to the club. “The day I finish here I can only do one thing, and that is to thank this club. It could be tomorrow, in 10 days, or in a year. And the only thing I will do is thank the club.”

A Rare Champions League Exit

This loss marks a historic moment for Real Madrid, as it’s the first time since 2020 that the club has failed to reach the Champions League semifinals. Carlo, who guided Madrid to European glory in 2014, 2022, and 2024, now faces questions about whether he will lead the team into the upcoming Club World Cup in June.

When asked if he believed he was still the best coach for the club at the moment, Ancelotti revealed he hadn’t given it much thought. His focus, for now, is on preparing for what’s next.

Ancelotti Focused on League and Copa del Rey

Carlo was also asked if he would change anything in his approach to preparing the team for the Arsenal clash, to which he firmly replied, “No.” He remains determined to motivate his players for the rest of the season, with Madrid trailing Barcelona by four points in La Liga.

The upcoming Copa del Rey final against Barcelona is also on the horizon, and Ancelotti is determined to fight for both titles. “If someone thinks I’m the only one to blame, it’s not going to change what I think in the next few days,” he said. “I’m only thinking about preparing for the next game to stay in the fight for the league title and try to win the Copa del Rey.”

As the season progresses, Ancelotti’s future at Real Madrid remains uncertain. Will the legendary coach be sacked, or will he continue his reign? Only time will tell.
