The Spanish Disciplinary Committee has ruled in favor of Andre Almeida, clearing him of the yellow card he received during Valencia’s match against Espanyol on Tuesday. The yellow card, which occurred in a controversial moment leading to Espanyol’s opening goal, was initially given by referee Pulido Santana. However, the committee reviewed the evidence and sided with the Portuguese player.
Andre Almeida’s Defense: “I Didn’t Foul Romero”
André Almeida had always maintained that he had not fouled Espanyol’s Carlos Romero. He even stated that Romero himself confirmed the incident, claiming that it was, in fact, Romero who had stepped on him. This statement was supported by Valencia’s head coach, Carlos Corberán, who mentioned it during the post-match press conference.
Committee Confirms Error in Referee’s Decision
After reviewing video footage and hearing Valencia’s appeal, the Disciplinary Committee concluded that Almeida was not at fault. According to the committee, Almeida was the first to reach the ball, while Romero inadvertently stepped on him, as shown in the video. Therefore, the committee found that the yellow card was issued in error, and it has been overturned.
This ruling has cleared Almeida of any wrongdoing, and Valencia’s appeal has been upheld, bringing relief to the player and the club.
