A five-member committee, led by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG), has been formed to investigate the death of Armed Police Force (APF) Inspector Santoshi Mahat, who was found dead in her barracks.
The APF headquarters decided to form the investigation committee after Mahat’s family filed a complaint against another APF Inspector, Vivek Joshi, accusing him of encouraging her suicide.
According to APF spokesperson DIG Kumar Neupane, Mahat’s family lodged a formal complaint at Kaski Police, alleging Joshi, who was her senior from the same batch, was responsible for abetting her suicide.
Mahat and Joshi were reportedly in a relationship, according to her family. Mahat, originally from Sindhupalchok, was a 17th Basic Training batch Inspector. She was undergoing basic training at the Riot Control Training Academy in Lamapatan, Pokhara, where she was found hanging near the women’s restroom in the barracks.
