Renowned singer Arijit Singh paid a spiritual visit to the revered Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, on Sunday. Accompanied by his wife, the couple participated in the temple’s iconic Bhasma Aarti, a centuries-old ritual that holds deep religious significance for followers of Lord Shiva.
Dressed in a traditional orange kurta with a chandan tilak adorning his forehead, Arijit was seen deeply engrossed in devotion. His wife, clad in a classic red saree, stood beside him throughout the ceremony, reflecting the couple’s reverence and faith.
The Mahakaleshwar Temple, located on the banks of the Shipra River, is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India and is a prominent pilgrimage destination. The temple draws devotees year-round, especially during Mahashivratri and the holy month of Shravan, when the spiritual energy is believed to be at its peak.
The Bhasma Aarti, a pre-dawn ritual held during the auspicious Brahma Muhurta (between 3:30 am and 5:30 am), is one of the most distinctive features of this temple. The ceremony begins with the opening of the sanctum doors and the Panchamrit Abhishek—a holy bath of milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar offered to Lord Mahakal.
After the ritual bath, the deity is anointed with sacred ash, cannabis, and sandalwood. The entire experience is accompanied by the resonant beats of traditional drums and the blowing of conch shells, creating a divine atmosphere.
Participating in the Bhasma Aarti is considered a powerful spiritual experience, believed to grant blessings and fulfill the heartfelt wishes of devotees. Arijit Singh’s visit is a testament to the enduring cultural and spiritual importance of the Mahakaleshwar Temple.
