Trace Cyrus, brother of pop icon Miley Cyrus, went on a fiery social media tirade on April 18, where he called out Katy Perry for allegedly copying his sister’s style and career moves.
In an Instagram video, the 36-year-old musician claimed that Perry mirrored Miley’s bold transformation after the Flowers singer debuted her iconic blonde pixie cut back in 2012—a moment that Trace said “broke the internet.”
“She cut her hair off, and it broke the internet, and everybody freaked out, and she bleached it blonde,” he recalled. Mocking a fictional boardroom chat, Trace imitated Perry supposedly discussing the look with her team: “‘Yeah, yeah, we should. Should we do it? Like, slightly different? No, we’re gonna do it exactly the same.’”
Perry indeed sported a similar short blonde hairstyle in 2017 before returning to her signature black hair in 2021.
Trace didn’t stop there. He took jabs at Perry’s 2017 single Bon Appétit, a collaboration with Migos, pointing out that the rap trio had previously dropped a track titled Hannah Montana—a clear nod to Miley’s Disney Channel persona. He implied the collab was a failed attempt to piggyback on the Cyrus legacy.
“You’re gonna do exactly what the f–k Miley did and blow up,” Trace sneered, before mocking Perry’s turn toward EDM when the single didn’t perform as expected.
The rant escalated when Trace mocked Perry’s recent journey to space as part of a historic all-female Blue Origin mission organized by Jeff Bezos. The trip, which lasted eight minutes, included Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sánchez, journalist Gayle King, former NASA engineer Aisha Bowe, activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
“Now we’re gonna send your a– to space. Didn’t f–king work. It’s not working. It’s backfiring. Stop,” Trace snapped, dismissing the spaceflight as another failed publicity stunt.
So far, Katy Perry has not responded publicly to Trace’s comments.
