Arm to Begin Manufacturing Its Own Chips After Securing Meta as a Customer

Arm, the publicly traded semiconductor company majorly owned by SoftBank, will start producing its own chips this year, thanks to a new partnership with Meta, according to a report by Financial Times. The company is set to design a CPU for servers in large data centers, which can be customized for various customers. However, Arm will outsource the manufacturing process of the chips.

The first of these in-house chips is expected to be unveiled as soon as this summer, marking a significant shift in Arm’s strategy. Historically, Arm has licensed its chip blueprints to companies like Apple and Nvidia, but now it will compete with some of its own customers by entering the chip-making business.
