In Shuddhodhan Rural Municipality-5, Jaynagar, a gas leak from a cylinder caused a fire while cooking, resulting in the death of a brother and sister due to burns.
According to District Police Spokesperson and DSP Mohanmani Adhikari, on Sunday morning at 7 AM, while cooking on a gas stove, a sudden gas leak from the regulator caused a fire, killing 25-year-old Shivkumar Yadav and 18-year-old Sonam Yadav.
Shivkumar had burns on 85% of his body, and Sonam had burns on 75%. Both were taken to the Medical College in Bhairahawa for treatment. As treatment was not possible there, they were being transferred to a medical college in Gorakhpur, India, at 1:30 PM on Sunday. However, both died on the way at around 6 PM, according to the police.
The deceased Sonam was studying in Grade 10 at Rastriya Uchha Madhyamik Vidyalaya Mudfutuwa. The school announced a day off on Monday as a mark of mourning, informed Principal Lal Chand Pandey.
