Zhipu AI, a leading Chinese AI startup, has unveiled a free AI agent named AutoGLM Rumination. This move comes as China’s tech industry becomes increasingly competitive in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). Zhipu AI’s new product is designed to perform a variety of tasks, including deep research, web searches, and even travel planning.

What is AutoGLM Rumination?

AutoGLM Rumination is an advanced AI agent that can assist users with various tasks. Powered by Zhipu AI’s proprietary models, including GLM-Z1-Air and GLM-4-Air-0414, the agent is designed to perform at high speeds and with lower resource consumption than its competitors.

According to Zhipu AI’s CEO, Zhang Peng, the new AI agent is capable of deep research, web searches, writing research reports, and planning travel itineraries.

The Technology Behind AutoGLM Rumination

The AutoGLM Rumination is built on Zhipu’s GLM-Z1-Air reasoning model, which the company claims performs on par with DeepSeek’s R1 model. However, Zhipu’s Artificial Intelligence is much faster and requires significantly fewer computing resources—up to eight times faster while using just one-thirtieth of the power.

AI agents, like the AutoGLM Rumination, are systems that can make decisions and perform tasks autonomously, without requiring continuous human input.

Zhipu AI’s Competitive Edge

Zhipu AI’s latest launch is part of a larger trend in China’s AI industry, with multiple companies launching similar products. This follows the earlier release of DeepSeek’s cost-efficient AI model and Manus’s general AI agent.

While Manus charges up to $199 per month for its AI agent, Zhipu AI offers AutoGLM Rumination for free. Users can access the agent through Zhipu’s official website and mobile app, making it an attractive option for those seeking an affordable AI solution.

Zhipu AI’s Growth and Future

Founded in 2019 as a spin-off from Tsinghua University, Zhipu AI has quickly risen to prominence in China’s AI sector. The company’s GLM series of models has gained attention, with its latest model, GLM4, outperforming OpenAI’s GPT-4 on various benchmarks.

The company’s success is also reflected in its recent funding rounds, which included three consecutive rounds of government-backed investment. The latest investment, amounting to 300 million yuan ($41.5 million), came from the city of Chengdu.
