There has been a clash between identity groups protesting the cable car project in the Pathibhara area of Taplejung and the police.
The clash occurred above the Kafle Pati area in Fungling Municipality-11, Taplejung, along the road leading to the Pathibhara temple.
To control the situation, the police fired 12 rounds of tear gas. As a result of the clash, passengers traveling to the Pathibhara temple were briefly stranded on the road.
The construction of the cable car to Pathibhara started on Tuesday. According to Taplejung’s Police Chief DSP Ravi Rawal, those opposing the cable car project had gathered in an organized manner with plans to block the construction. The clash occurred when the police arrived.
DSP Rawal stated that to disperse the protesting identity group, Nepal Police fired 5 rounds and armed police fired 7 rounds of tear gas. He also mentioned that the police seized the khukuris and slingshots that the protesters had brought for the demonstration.
