An elephant was found dead in a forest in Jhapa on Wednesday evening. The carcass was already decomposing when it was discovered.
The elephant was spotted inside the Pathibhara Community Forest in Kachankawal-7. According to police, several other elephants were surrounding the dead one, making it difficult for officials to reach the site.
Authorities have not yet determined the elephantโs age, gender, or cause of death. Officials from the Division Forest Office and police have been deployed to the area for investigation.
Conservationist Shankar Luitel suspects the elephant may have died about a month ago. “Since the body is decomposing, it is possible that the elephant died or was killed several weeks ago,” he said. The exact cause of death will be known after further investigation.
