Lawmakers in Nepal have raised concerns over the safety of Nepali students studying at KIIT University in Odisha, India.

Speaking during an urgent session of the National Assembly on Sunday, lawmakers said repeated similar incidents at the same university have become serious and worrying.

Recently, Prisha Sah from Birgunj, who was studying at KIIT University, was found dead. Earlier, another Nepali student, Prakriti Lamsal, had also been found dead at the same university.

Nepali Congress MP Krishna Bahadur Rokaya said the government has shown concern after these deaths, but around 1,200 Nepali students are studying at KIIT, so more than concern is needed.

MP Ganga Kumari Belbase from CPN (Maoist Centre) said the government should take the matter seriously and that the Home Minister should give an explanation. She demanded that a committee be formed to investigate why such incidents keep happening.

CPN-UML MP Sumitra BC urged the government to ensure the safety of students who go abroad to build their future.

Madan Kumari Shah from CPN (Unified Socialist) said there seems to be a serious problem at KIIT University and suggested the government reconsider issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to students planning to go there.

She said, “Nepali students should not be sent to countries or universities where they do not feel safe.” She urged the government and parents to stop sending children to such places.

She also made a direct appeal to all Nepali parents through the Parliament to avoid sending their children to KIIT University.

LSP MP Shekhar Kumar Singh also expressed concern over similar incidents happening again within just four months at the same university. He called on the government to act early and create necessary policies to prevent further tragedies. He also demanded that those responsible be punished.
